CPD & Consultation

Historically, rope access has had a limited use case in the conservation industry. This is largely down to a lack of craftspeople deciding to work from ropes, with the companies offering conservation services often being companies specialised in industrial sectors, trying to add another avenue for revenue. At HLRA we are both highly skilled in specialised access, and dedicated to conservation. Our team of craftspeople and surveyors are passionate about our built heritage, and therefore our service is unique within the industry. Below is a list of our CPD and consultation services, which can be beneficial for those who are unsure about how rope access might be useful for them, or just the right approach to take when using rope access.

CPD Services

Rope access is an incredibly versatile means of access, making it suitable for a wide range of tasks within the conservation sector. Nonetheless, there are many myths and misconceptions surrounding rope access and what it is capable of.
In order to dispel these myths, we have begun offering CPD presentations to those who would like to learn more about how rope access might be useful to them. If you are interested to learn how our methods can streamline operations, make routine maintenance straightforward and affordable, reduce risks for specifiers and clients,  or just make cost prohibitive projects possible, then please get in touch via our contact form.
We have delivered these CPD presentations to some of the most prestigious architects practices in the country, and they have always been well received. If nothing else, they get a conversation started.

Access Design

Knowing that you can use rope access is one thing, knowing how to use it is another thing altogether. Over years of experience HLRA has developed a wide range of techniques suited to any situation. We are big believers that more can be done with rope access than people realise, and so really its often just a matter of asking the question.
Whether you are wondering if we can find a way to do something with specialist access so as to reduce costs on a project, or whether you want a bespoke maintenance plan creating for you building, we are sure to be able to find a solution.
Often, rope access consultation at the specification stage of a project can drastically change the feasibility of a project and the manner in which repairs are specified - without the need for a fixed scaffold repairs can be conducted by priority rather than convenience. This is one of the big advantages of having a rope access informed surveyor involved right from the start.

Mortar Design

As participants in the Building Limes Forum, with a SPAB Fellow and SPAB Lethaby Scholar in our core team, and having worked closely with industry experts such as David Wiggins, we at HLRA have a deep and practical understanding of the nuances of lime mortar.
Never using standard mixes, we always tailor our mortars to the requirements of a masonry detail based on function and exposure, ensuring that we always attain the required performance. Our decisions are based on a solid understanding of the current research, as well as what we have seen working practically on site over many years of experience.
This experience has placed us well to design mortars for all environments, and combined with the versatility of rope access, old limitations such as the need to remove environmental protection because a scaffold needs to come down need no longer apply. If you would like to know more about how our experience with lime mortars might assist your project, please get in touch.
